New Mold Preparation
New mold arrives looking like this, (Shiney Surfaces)
Sand blast or lightly sand with Emery cloth to remove the shine from the surface
I found a used Propane Camp stove at a yard sale to heat the molds, and a cheap sprayer from a local dollar store to apply Kiln Wash. Hot plate and Air Brush works well
A steel plate is used here to provide more even heat to the molds. The entire plate will heat up to prep multiple molds
Apply Kilnwash to hot molds, the water will flash off into steam quickly so several coats can be applied in a short time. For best results, 5 coats should be applied
Allow molds to cool and they can be lightly rubbed with old nylons for a smooth finish. They are now ready for use.
